La Traviata essays "La Traviata" Summary, a famous opera by Verdi In Act 1, the heroine is Violetta Valery, she is suffering from the first ravages of consumption. She lives for the pleasure of the moment until Alfredo Germont falls in love with her. Alfredo offers to take her away from the fast life thatà ¡s killing her, they go off to a country villa but Alfredoà ¡s father, Giorgio Germont finds out about this. He appeals to Violetta not to lead his son to ruin and disgrace the family name, Violetta finally makes the decision to leave Alfredo. In Act 2, Alfredo breaks into a festive party, Alfredo at the gambling table, has played for huge stakes against the Baron and won a great deal of money. Violetta begs him to leave the party. She is terrified of the Baron and fears that Alfredo will come to harm. This scene unfolds against a tense ostinato rhythm in the orchestra that reveals their agitation. Violetta lets Alfredo believe that she left him because he loved the Baron, Alfredo then summons the guests into the room. He hurls the purse containing all his winnings at Violettaà ¡s feet to repay her, Violetta faints in Floraà ¡s arms. Giorgio arrives on time and is ashamed of him. The voices of the principal characters each expresses his her feelings. Alfredo is overwhelmed with remorse, Giorgio is horrifed, Baron wants a duel with Alfredo, Flora and the guest sympathize with Violetta. When Violetta regains consciousness, she sings a beautiful passage. In the Final act, in Violettaà ¡s bedroom, her doctor friend says that Violetta is dying. Violetta reads a letter from elder Germont informing her of the duel between alfredo and baron, alfredo arrives, his father finally realizes how blind he has been, but ità ¡s too late, and Violetta dies in Alfredoà ¡s arms. ...

The Importance of Ralphie in Nights Below Station Street Throughout David Adams Richards Nights Below Stations Street, Ralphie Pillar lives up to his name. In a chaotic community, Ralphie is honest and kind. He helps out so many people with his good heart and genuine personality, without even realizing it. By being himself, Ralphie emerges as the true hero in this novel. Throughout the story Ralphie displays simple acts of kindness and humanity. His gentle presence and respect for people make others feel comfortable. His relationships with his sister, Vera, his girlfriend, Adele, and her father, Joe Walsh, specifically show us his character. Vera is Ralphieââ¬â¢s older sister and is in her mid-twenties. Growing up she wasnââ¬â¢t very popular, ââ¬Å"Vera always seemed to be alone. Ralphie would watch her coming up the lane, as a schoolgirl carrying her books in her arms, with her big round glasses fogged up and snow falling on her hairâ⬠(Richards, 92). Like many people in this novel, Vera never really felt like she fit in. She was an outsider without many friends, ââ¬Å"she was always looking for new friendsâ⬠(Richards, 92). During these years, she and Ralphie werenââ¬â¢t enemies, but they werenââ¬â¢t really close either. Vera was teased not only by other kids as a child, but by her father, ââ¬Å"She stayed at home. While at University, Veraââ¬â¢s relationship with her mother started to deteriorate. She wanted to bring her black boyfriend home for the holidays, which infuriated her mother.
